A controlled field test of CN1 and CN3 fuel and oil catalysts was conducted during live drilling operations in the Barnett Shale. The objective was to reduce emissions and fuel use, improve engine life, and increase output — all with zero modifications to the existing Caterpillar 399 diesel engine.

CN1 & CN3 Testing on a Caterpillar 399

THE CHALLENGE

Nabors Rig 712 deployed a Caterpillar 399 diesel generator to drill in the Barnett Shale. The goal was to reduce emissions and fuel use, improve engine longevity, and earn NOx credits—all without modifying the equipment. Testing was performed under 100% load using a generator load bank and standardized test protocol.

THE RESULTS

Implementation of CN1 and CN3 catalysts resulted in measurable reductions in emissions, fuel consumption, oil usage, and engine wear, while enhancing power output and operational efficiency. Target drill depth was achieved 2.5 days ahead of schedule under full load conditions.
